Professional Qualifications and Registration

I am registered as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).   I trained with the Arbours Association, an organisation with a long history of providing psychotherapy as well as therapeutic community treatment to people with quite profound difficulties.

I am a registered mental health nurse and am a member of The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

I abide by the codes of professional conduct and ethics of both of these professional bodies.

I have trained to advanced level in Mentalisation Based Therapy.

I have undertaken further training and education in ecopsychology and ecotherapy.

I have a BA in Sociology and a Full design certificate in Permaculture and I bring to my counselling and therapy practice an awareness of how social, environmental, political  and cultural forces, as well as psychological, influence the individual.

Experience

I have fourteen years experience as a practicing psychotherapist in a variety of settings.  I specialise in heping people who have difficulties with self esteem, experiences of childhood abuse, bereavement issues, questions about sexuality, depression, self harm and relationship difficulties.   I have extensive experience working with clients using psychoanalytic and mentalisation based therapy models in an NHS setting as well as in private practice and therapeutic communities.

I have provided clinical supervision and training to professionals individually and in groups. I have a developing interest and experience in horticultural therapy and other ecotherapeutic practices.  I work in a culturally sensitive way and am experienced in working with people from a variety of backgrounds.

How I work

I have an eclectic approach to working with people and will utilise a variety of theories and practices to suit the particular individual.  In an initial meeting I develop a sense with the client of which way of working would be most suitable.   The approximate expected length of treatment can be decided at this time, or discussed in the first few sessions if necessary.  Sessions last for 50 minutes and are in my consulting room in Crouch End. If I am using an ecotherapy approach sessions may take place in other locations outdoors.

I currently work in the NHS as a psychotherapist and have a small private practice in Crouch End, North London.  My practice is a 15 minute walk from Finsbury Park tube station and five minutes walk from Haringay overground station.    Sessions are available in the early mornings and early evenings Monday to Thursday.

I can also offer clinical supervision as well as therapy and supervision via webcam, after an initial face to face meeting.
